So You've Lost Your Job - What Now?

So we have to train ourselves to become the best in any job interview. Knowing how to prepare for a job interview therefore becomes very important.

Your requirement is always for an excellent career. In this competitive environment, the candidates have shown their ability, potential and extraordinary skills of communication to grab the job they desire. Being mentally fit and having an alert mind are important factors to do well in an interview. Mental preparation is another key factor for a successful interview. If you end up in an interview unprepared and blank, you will obviously end up failing and getting negative results.

Here are a few important things to consider about how to prepare for a job interview to come out with flying colors:

1. Remember to use non-verbal messages than words. As soon as you enter the interview room consider and remember few important points like:

You need to ensure that your potential employer will read your CV, and then invite you to interview. However, make sure you don’t make it too lengthy, try to keep your letter to one side of A4.

Point out in your letter why you feel that you are suited to to the job. Many job applications fall down because they are not particularly well tailored to the job description that you will have received from the employer. It is therefore essential that you read it carefully and emphasize the relevant skills that you offer. Show that you have taken the trouble to read the information that the employer sent to you and to have thought about it. For the job offerer, it is a big turn-off if the applicant shows an ignorance of the needs of the job.

To summarise you should include: -

* Who you are and which job you’re applying for - just a brief summary would be best here, mention where you saw the job advertised and what you are doing currently.

* How your skills ,experience and education match the criteria needed - detail here any relevant experience you have here whether it be voluntary or paid. Ensure that you match your skills etc with the job specification.

* Why you wish to work in this particular sector - explain what has led you to believe that this is the right sector for you. Eg, voluntary work experience or perhaps work shadowing etc.

* Why you are applying to this organisation - do some background research on the organisation and explain what in particular attracts you to them.

Make sure you conclude the letter and end on a positive note, such as you look forward to hearing from them.

Work at Home - Know What it Takes

You know you've got a sweet cushy job when you're making lots of money and not working. Not having to report to a boss, no punching in at the time clock, what can be better right? Does this sound like your kind of job? I'm willing to bet on it. Of course it's not all bells and whistles, to get to this point you have to put in some work.

No ones going to hand you a magic potion or software and puff you're set for life, it not that easy but its easy enough. So easy in fact that all you need is a few hours a day and you will be well on your way. In some cases you don't even need money or a web site.

When people ask me what I do, it's not always easy to answer. Do you want the long version or the short version I ask? When I get asked how many hours I work, sometimes I say 2-3 hours a day and sometimes I say 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Both answers are the truth, depending on my mood. There is of course the inevitable question of how much money I make. Here is where I just smile and say, "you mean since I've been here talking to you?"

So you want to run your own home business, well as you can imagine being your own boss takes discipline. There is no one looking over your shoulder making sure you get the job done but this is both a blessing and a curse. Without discipline you're doomed to failure. Its great setting my own schedule, but I've got a job to do and there's no one else who's going to do it for me. The great thing is when you see the fruits of your labor coming in you will want to work more at it than you think. Money is the great motivator and what's better; working eight hours for your boss or working ten hours for you.

So what do I do? The really short version; I do Internet Marketing. The search engines are my greatest love, it's a win-win situation. People come to the Internet and my website with needs, my job is to help them find what they want. I've had my share of all-nighters in the beginning and still do, you will also. Not because you have to, but because you'll want to. 1. Start with experience, not education
Experienced individuals should write their job experiences first and not education in their professional resumes. Your job experience is what makes you truly valuable. Unlike the entry-level candidates, the experienced professionals should list their degrees and certificates at the end of the resume. Employers are more concerned about the job performance of experienced professionals than their educational background.

2. Create an image that matches the salary you want
As you write your resume, keep in mind the level of job and salary you want. Be careful to use the appropriate language for your resume, so that it creates an impression that presents you at the appropriate level. Prepare your resume in such a way that either you stay at your current salary level or move up - but never go backwards.

3. List accomplishments, not just responsibilities
Write about your achievements and accomplishments and mention about the long-term value you can bring to the company with your experience, professional maturity and expertise. Freshers can just list down their job responsibilities, but experienced professionals can not afford to do that. Avoid focusing on responsibilities instead of achievements.

4. Proofread your resume
After you have finalized your employment documents, check them repeatedly for errors in spelling, grammar, or punctuation. Spelling and grammatical errors can automatically disqualify a resume from consideration. If you make mistakes in your employment documents, hiring managers might presume you will be equally careless on the job - no matter how important your qualifications and experiences are. 7 Tips on Starting a Business After You Have Lost Your Job

  1. Change your mindset. It’s natural for people who leave employment and start a business to carry with them some of the culture from their previous job. However, you must realize that you are changing gears. You are moving from being an employee to being a boss. You are moving from being a follower to being a leader. This requires you to make the appropriate mental adjustment. In many ways, this is the most difficult thing that you must do when starting your business. It’s also one of the most critical.
  2. Become fanatical about keeping you cash burn as low as possible. Cash is the oxygen for you business. As a start-up you can’t operate like a traditional established business. You must have enough cash to stay in the game long enough to learn from your mistakes. At the beginning your business success depends heavily on how well you can reduce operating costs. There are some simple ways that you can do this. For instance use Skype or another VOIP operator instead of a traditional landline. Use free software such as OpenOffice and Google Docs. If you don’t need office space then start up in your garage. By keeping your cash burn low you increase your scope for failure. In other words, you can have more rolls of the dice. After all, learning from your mistakes is the best way to learn in the real business world.
  3. Get a part-time job. I know this is strange advice for anyone who is starting a business but hear me out. You need income to survive. You may have savings and a redundancy package but it’s good not to eat into these too much. By getting another job you are providing yourself and your family with income until your business gets off the ground. There are also some good psychological benefits to this as well. Because your time will be limited you will become more productive in your business time. You will also not be forced to make rash decisions for your business due to financial pressure. That’s right, it will help you avoid an “all in” moment.
  4. Leverage the Internet. The internet offers the best value for you to promote your business. As a start-up you should be looking for early adopters in your market segment. The Internet is a great place to find these. Using social networks and participating in online communities is a great way to do market research and make early sales for a start-up. Every start-up should leverage the Internet as much as possible.
  5. Realize that you must bootstrap and self fund first before you will get investment. This is particularly true in the current economic climate. Investors want to see traction. This is the most important thing. If you can bootstrap to early sales or even better, early profits you will find it much easier to unlock the door to investment.
  6. Realize that you probably won’t be an overnight success. It’s important to understand that you are more likely to succeed if you approach your business from the perspective of making incremental improvements that will accumulate into ultimate success.
  7. It’s a bit like gambling. Making real world business decisions is really making educated guesses at what you think might work. A lot of the time your decisions won’t work. It’s important to test and measure each decision so you fully understand which ones work and which ones don’t. This is the key to doing more of what works and less of what doesn’t.
